After School Enrichment

After School Enrichment (ASE) is an extracurricular program coordinated by the Garrisonville Elementary School PTO in collaboration with GES teachers and staff and other approved instructors.  The program is designed to offer our Gators additional opportunities for educational enrichment in a familiar and supportive environment. This school year, two seasonal (fall and winter) sessions will be offered.


Gardening Gators (Gardening/Horticulture) [Mrs. Helms] 1st - 5th grade Gators will discover their inner green thumb..er..claws, as they uncover the fun of gardening. Students will learn about everything from planting to gardening!

Creative Gators (STEM) [Ms. Golles] Kindergarten - 3rd grade 
Join Ms. Golles in the library maker space to make, build, and create!

Go Gators Go! (Running and Fitness) [Mrs. Lopes] Kindergarten - 5th grade  Help your child add more activity to their day with this after-school running club. Students will learn the fundamentals of running and learn the importance of staying physically fit.  

Sculpting Gators (Art) [Mr. Harris] 5th grade  A special opportunity to learn to create sculptures and clay projects, including pottery on a potter’s wheel!

Chess Club (Games) [Mrs. Grosser] 2nd - 5th grade  Chess club is designed to give kids an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and enjoy competition against their peers. Novice players will be taught the basic rules, the value of pieces, and how to checkmate. More experienced players will learn different opening and defense strategies, various tactics, and will be given the opportunity to challenge themselves by solving chess puzzles. While students will have the chance to measure their progress through wins and losses against their peers, our main focus will be on encouraging good sportsmanship and having fun!

Lotus Hour (Personal Development) [Ms. LaMond] 4th - 5th grade The lotus flower symbolizes being resilient in the face of adversity. Lotus Hour is a unique class that focuses on student empowerment, creativity, and emotional regulation.  Our classes will include coloring mandalas, practicing yoga, engaging in fun crafts, and practicing mindfulness/
relaxation techniques. We will incorporate fun social emotional learning skills and self-regulation techniques that will empower students to be confident and to love themselves.

Theater Games (Drama/Games) [Ms. Strickler] 2nd - 5th grade  We will explore theater arts through a variety of games and activities. During our time together, we will discover mime, creative sounds, movement, rhythm, characterization, and more!

Board Games Galore (Board Games) [Ms. Hanley] 2nd - 4th grade  Let’s get together and play games! We have board games, smart board games, card games, the works! Join us for an afternoon of friends and fun!

Beading (Arts and Crafts) [Mrs. Henion] 1st - 5th grade  Join Mrs. Henion for arts and crafts fun! We will be using beads to create a variety of projects, everything from animals to necklaces and bracelets!

During this session, classes meet once a week, from 3:45-4:45pm, at Garrisonville Elementary. Class tuition is $45 for the session, and registration is on a first come, first served basis as classes are limited by age and number of students according to individual course activities and materials. As it is an after-school program, parents will need to arrange pickup at 4:45pm.


Course offerings vary from session to session and typically span a wide range of interests.  Our outstanding instructors go the extra mile to ensure our Gators have a fun and well-rounded experience at GES!

Fall 2019 ASE Classes will be held on WEDNESDAYS from 3:45-4:45 p.m. on 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, and 11/20. Tuition for the six week course is $45.00.  


Payment must be received no later than September 27th to secure a class seat.  You may pay via check payable to GES PTO, cash, or online via PayPal.  If sending in cash or check to the school, place in a sealed envelope marked with your child’s name and their teacher’s name.  


Spaces are limited and are assigned on a first come first served basis.  So the sooner you sign up, the better your chance to secure your child’s spot!  


The deadline to register and make payment is Friday, September 27th!!


You will be emailed on October 9th to confirm your Gator’s specific class registration and to give you details for the first class.  Thank you for participating in the GES Extracurricular Program!! 


* A few need-based scholarships are available for each session so that students can participate for a reduced tuition rate.  Please complete the online registration form for more information. We would like ALL students to have access to enrichment opportunities.
